One-on-one psychology and support.

Based in Victor Harbor, I provide individual, in-person & telehealth consultations to people experiencing a range of issues. We work together to develop self-understanding and improve overall quality of life.

One-on-one support for:

  • Anxiety is a normal, healthy emotion we all experience from time to time. However, for some people, their anxiety becomes disproportionate to what’s happening, and they can find themselves feeling anxious without there being any clear trigger. If you suffer from an anxiety disorder, you might find yourself unable to stop worrying, living in a state of heightened stress. This can become an all-consuming experience that feels as though it has taken over your life.

  • We all go through periods of feeling down but if this feeling persists for a prolonged period of time, then you may be suffering from depression. Depression is a serious mental health condition, not a sign of weakness or something that someone can just ‘snap out of’.

  • If you have a personality disorder, you’re likely to differ from an average person in terms of the way you think, feel, or relate to other people. You may experience intense emotional dysregulation, impulsivity, and intense interpersonal relationships. Personality disorders typically emerge in adolescence and then continue into adulthood.

  • After a distressing event, it’s normal to have trouble sleeping or to struggle to adjust to everyday life, but if these symptoms last for over a month, you may be suffering from PTSD. PTSD is triggered by very difficult, frightening, and upsetting events and can develop following any event (or series of events) that have been overwhelming.

  • Eating disorders are characterized by an abnormal attitude to food that causes someone to change their eating habits and behaviour. If you’re suffering from an eating disorder, you might find yourself focusing on your weight excessively, making unhealthy choices around food, over-exercising, or using other behaviours to control your weight.

  • The effects of chronic pain and physical illness can cause significant emotional and physical distress, as well as problems with functioning at work, in relationships, and day-to-day life. Whether the cause of your pain or physical symptoms is known or not, psychological therapies have been shown to help people manage pain and physical illness, improve their quality of life, and function better.

  • Bereavement is the experience of losing a loved one. It is characterized by grief which is the process and range of emotions we go through when we lose someone - or something - important to us. Although bereavement is a normal process that everyone goes through, for some people it can be an overwhelming experience that brings up unmanageable feelings.

Therapeutic Approach

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

    Cognitive behavioural therapy is an educational approach that helps you to understand your problems, and how these affect your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.

    The focus of the therapy is to enable you to generate solutions to problems based on techniques learned in therapy.

  • Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)

    Dialectical behaviour therapy is a compassionate approach that blends acceptance and change to effectively treat borderline personality disorder, chronic depression, and other complex mental health conditions.

    The aim is to empower you with the tools to navigate emotional turmoil and build a life worth living.

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

    Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy is a scientifically supported treatment for trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder.

    It involves well-refined procedures that use bilateral sensory stimulation such as repeated eye movements, to help you work through and process memories of trauma and other adverse life experiences.

  • Schema Focused Therapy

    Schema therapy helps you discover unmet childhood emotional needs, which may be driving problematic life patterns (‘schemas’) in your adult life.

    It increases compassionate awareness of different parts of the self (‘modes’) that are involved in maintaining these problems and helps you develop your capacity to address your emotional needs in a healthy, fulfilling way.

25 Years of Experience

Inspired by my high school psychology lessons more than 25 years ago I became fascinated with why people behave the way they do. I decided to pursue a career where I could help people understand their difficulties and improve their quality of life.

For 15 years now I have been involved with my local community, working with a diverse range of people to provide a supportive and practical approach to help them understand their difficulties and improve their mental health and well-being.

FAQs

Do I need a referral?

Self-referrals are welcome however you will need to cover the full cost of fees in doing so.  If you have private health insurance, please check with your health care fund if you are eligible for reimbursement.

NDIS, Workcover, and Employee Assistance Program referrals are also welcome

What are the fees and rebates?

The session fee is $190.  With a referral from your GP in the form of a Mental Health Care Plan, Medicare will provide a rebate of $96.65 with a gap payable of $93.35.

The Concession fee is $150 with the rebate as above and a gap payable of $53.35.

The full amount is payable at the time of the appointment with the Medicare rebate back in your nominated account usually within 1-2 business days.

Is there parking onsite?

Yes! Free parking is available onsite.

What if I can’t attend my appointment?

I appreciate that sometimes life happens.  If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment 48 hours' notice is required.  The fee for canceling or rescheduling your appointment within 24-48 hours is $50, and within 24 hours $100 is charged.  I will remind you of this policy at the time of booking.

How long do sessions last and how many will I require?

Each session is 50 minutes in duration.  The number of sessions you require will vary for each individual and this will be discussed with you during your initial session.

I cannot provide assessments or reports for legal, Centrelink, or diagnostic purposes.
